This scene introduces the Poloniuss family. The scene starts with Laertes about to leave to go to Paris and is talking to Ophelia. He is lecturing her about her relationship Hamlet. Laertes warns Ophelia that Hamlet is only interested in one thing and after he gets what he wants hell lose affection for her. Ophelia replies to Laertes that he shouldnt tell her to live strictly while he self indulgence like a libertine. He tries to defend himself while their father Poloniuss enters. Polonius tells Laertes to depart before he is late and misses his boat. After Laertes departs, Polonius starts to question Ophelia about the nature of her relationship with Hamlet. Polonius reenforces Laertes warnings concerning Hamlet and tells Ophelia not to see him anymore. With some reluctancy she obeys.

LAERTES - This is the first scene that Laertes appears in. I couldnt really tell if Laertes is a static character or an evolving character. I went on the internet to try and find out. What I discover is that Laertes is a static character. He is a static character for many reasons, Laeartes has certain flaws and he never learns from his mistakes. His biggest flaw being that he is implusive and if it not for his implusivness he might have lived.

I really couldnt decide if she was, but from what i read she is an evolving character because she betrays Hamlet to King Claudius. She evolved from loving Hamlet to betraying him.

POLONIUS - Act 1 scene is the first time Polonius makes an appearance. It is clear that Polonius is a static character right from the beginning.
