Tuberculosis, which can target any body part, results in the death of nearly two million people every year. TB is an infectious disease that is caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis usually found in the droplets of an active TB patient (1). According to historical studies, TB was known to the ancient Egyptians, in fact, the analysis of the spinal column of the mummies from 400 BC shows a definite pathological signs of TB decay. Thousands of years later, A. Waksman discovered the power of fungi in decreasing the Mycobacterium tuberculosis growth, and was able to isolate actinomycin that was too poisonous for use in both humans and animals. His second discovery, streptomycin, showed a more noticeable success; the bacteria vanished from the patient's sputum and he made a quick recovery (). By 00 the incidence of TB disease will rise to 100 million new cases and will account for 6 million deaths a year. Nowadays, one person gets infected every second (1). Transmission, symptoms, and treatment are the three criteria by which tuberculosis, an infectious disease, can be described.

Although droplet transmission is the most common way to transmit TB, direct contact and infection via intestines are unusual ways to transmit this disease. TB is usually contracted by spreading through the tiny droplets that may spray into the air when an individual carrying the bacteria sneezes or coughs (4). Having direct exposure to bacteriogenic materials is another way to contract TB; therefore, workers, who are in close contact with these materials, are at most risk to develop TB this way, for example dissecting assistants, doctors, ranchers, and butchers. Finally, a person can get TB by eating contaminated animal products such as raw milk or undercooked meat from an infected animal ().

Symptoms vary according to the infected organ. The commonest site of tuberculosis disease is the lungs, but it can spread to other organs specifically joints, bones, central nervous system, and urinary. Several symptoms are associated with pulmonary TB, including cough, fatigue, slight fever, and pain when breathing or coughing, while extrapulmonary TB symptoms may be back pain if the spine is affected, or blood in the urine of a patient with TB of the kidney (1).

The treatment regimen includes at least three or preferably four specific antibiotics that can be changed if the causative agent develops drug resistance. The initial regimen for treating TB should include four drugs isoniazid, rifampin, pyrazinamide, and ethambutol; however if the bacteria becomes drug resistant then streptomycin is used instead of ethambutol (1, ). Occasionally, the drugs may cause serious side effects. Possible side effects of rifampin, which are similar to symptoms of flu, include fever, chills, muscle pain, nausea, and vomiting; while those of ethambutol are kidney and vision related (1).

In conclusion, tuberculosis is an infectious disease that can be described according to its transmission, symptoms, and treatments. It can be transmitted in various ways such as droplet, direct contact, and infection via intestines. Since pulmonary TB is the most common form of this disease, symptoms related to the lungs often appears as the disease progresses. Finally, certain antibiotics are prescribed for the treatment of TB that may differ if the patient contracted TB for the second time. Therefore, understanding TB in order to decreasing the mortality caused by it are the purposes of this essay.

Machiavellis representation of truth in The Prince is rooted in a cynical view of political and personal power. He uses the tactics of confusion and misrepresentation to advance his concept of the ideal state. Machiavelli combined the traditional, or classical, and Christian thought that was prevalent in philosophical circles of his day for the purposes of presenting his concept of power. This 5 page paper examines the concept of power, truth and imagination from Machiavellis viewpoint in The Prince.

and relates this notion of morality within the constructs of leadership. This paper considers the fact that Machiavelli appears to support the notion that the means always justify the ends in political situations, and that understanding this is the premise of strong leadership

Machiavelli creates principles to which a Princedom should be run which will enable the Prince to be strong in this reign that rival those of the THE ART OF WAR. He covers the state in which a Prince reigns such as that of acquiring new territory and the characteristics of which a Prince should follow if the Prince wishes to remain in power. Machiavelli also outlines the type of arms a Prince should inquire in defending his citizens or in attack of another ruler. Machiavelli covers Italys current political position of when he was living their and how its faults happened how it can be remedied. Under all his points he leaves the message, that no matter how you came into power, use it wisely and good fortune will be bestoed on you or that the ends justify the means.

I recommend that anyone who wishes to get into the mind of a political and military master mind or just someone looking for a thought provocing book should read this because it is not to be taken lightly. Although he is writing of political positions in the 1500s most of the points he makes can still be useful today however not all because of the invention of chemical and nuclear warfare and internet which has opened the world into a new dimension.

As a high school student I remember many of my instructors referring to Machiavelli as the author of the famous book on backstabbing for power. After having finally read the Prince, I really wonder where this reputation comes from. Machiavelli makes it clear from the first page that hes writing a guide for taking and maintaining power without any moral considerations getting in the way, but his arguments outline a benevolent authority, not a tyrannical one. In the Discourses (also included in this book), he extols the virtues of the people over the prince.

The Prince and the Discourses both have interesting gems for the modern reader. Machiavelli uses many examples of powerful people and institutions from his time. He expresses almost an atheistic position when discussing religion, and, furthermore, he describes a general disillusionment with religion by the people of Italy. I found all these subtle things quite intriguing and not at all what I would have expected.

Machiavelli writes in a very easy to read style (is this just the translation?) and he presents logical arguments and historical examples to back everything up, but his arguments generally boil down to because I say so. I suspect if a modern writer (particularly an academic) wrote this same book, it would be five times longer, with detailed justification for each point made.

Please note that this sample paper on Machiavellis "The Prince" is for your review only. In order to eliminate any of the plagiarism issues, it is highly recommended that you do not use it for you own writing purposes. In case you experience difficulties with writing a well structured and accurately composed paper on Machiavellis "The Prince", we are here to assist you. momThe landscape of the Eastern Conference has been shaken up in recent weeks. Atlanta has obtained Glenn "Big Dog" Robinson, Boston added Vin Baker and Shammond Williams, Cleveland added young stud Darius Miles, Detroit added Chauncey Billups, Milwaukee added Toni Kukoc, New Orleans signed star point guard Baron Davis to a contract extension, New York obtained Antonio McDyess, Orlando added Pat Garrity and Jacque Vaughn, Washington added Larry Hughes, and today the New Jersey Nets acquired All-Star center Dikembe Mutombo.

Whew! Just reading through these transactions is enough to make my head spin – and this list doesn't even include players from the NBA draft this summer. Isn't the Western Conference supposed to be the big boys of the NBA? This summer GM's from numerous Eastern Conference teams have made bold moves in attempts to bolster their clubs chances at winning an elusive NBA championship.

Late Tuesday afternoon Rod Thorn and the Nets pulled a gutsy move in the acquisition of Mutombo. Starting point guard Jason Kidd has been begging for a dominant big man for months and now he has an All-Star center in Mutombo.

"In bringing Dikembe to New Jersey, we have added a perennial All-Star to our roster," said Thorn. "He is a four-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year who is one of the leading rebounders and shot blockers in the NBA. Dikembe's presence in the middle will strengthen our interior defense and his attributes fit in well with our overall style of play."

The big question is how does Mutombo fit with the Nets uptempo game? The problem Nets fans will discover is that Mutombo doesn't. Mutombo is an aging relic who didn't mesh with Allen Iverson this past season which is why the Sixers unloaded Mutombo. Just as Hakeem Olajuwon struggled with the Raptors this past season, so will Mutombo with the young upstart Nets next year. Jason Kidd has longed for a dominant big men and the Nets will keep him waiting like a jilted groomsman at the alter on his wedding day.

Mutombo is an 11-year NBA veteran who started to show signs of his age in the playoffs and during the later stages of the season. Mutombo has career marks of 12.3 points, 12.3 rebounds and 3.4 blocks in 840 games. Last year Mutombo averaged 11.5 points, 10.8 rebounds and 2.4 blocks while earning All-NBA Third Team and NBA All-Defensive second team honors.

These are decent stats and nothing to sneeze at, however, anyone who watched Mutombo and the Sixers struggle in the first round of the playoffs realize that last years version of Mutombo is a shell of the player that helped the Sixers to the NBA Finals the previous year. Mutombo's stats from last years playoffs are similar to that of this regular season stats – 8.8 points per game and 10.6 boards – are down slightly from his season long averages. However it was the way that the Sixers offense lagged while he was on the court and were unable to keep up with Boston.

The Nets have a young team built around Kidd, Kenyon Martin and Richard Jefferson. These players made the Nets successful last season due to their run and gun style, a game in which Mutombo showed no signs of being interested in last season with the Sixers. Mutombo prefers a slowed down offense in which the point guard brings the ball up court and dumps the ball down into the post to the teams big man.

On paper the acquisition of a former All-Star and defensive player of the year looks like another stroke of genius by Rod Thorn. However this is more than likely a bad science experiment that is sure to blow up in Thorn's face.

Cubism is an early twentieth century school of painting and sculpture in which the subject matter is portrayed by geometrical forms without realistic detail. That makes it mystic and difficult to analyze and define their ambiguous meaning. During that period, Jacques Riviere is one of a few cubism critics who profoundly know and understand cubism. Especially, he is able to interpret it in words which are easily comprehensible to the other. He does not only conveys the cubists' concepts but the mistakes of their works as well.

The essence of the cubists is to portray what objects really are instead of images which normal people see. Consequently, the images look distort from the original shape. Riviere analyzes the cubism transformation concepts in two functions including eliminating lighting and perspective. The cubists replace all these qualities by plastic values. They believe that lighting effects change the true senses of things. They reject the concept and nature of lighting and substitute to the equal and subtle distribution. The shade that normally place on some parts of object, are dispensed into a small portion to every part of object by placing it near the edge of surface, in order to divide and mark successive inclination of the parts of object. Therefore, the geometrical forms benefit them to unleash from the lighting rule. The advantage of this procedure is the unity and the separation function simultaneously.

Perspective is another thing that cubists remove because it conceals the true form of an object, as it will change every single time when we move the position. Therefore, the plastic image is used to represent all aspects of the object in only one sight. It sometimes reveals the exaggerate image that normally it is impossible to see at one position. Basically, perspective gives the depth of an object but the cubists think the depth is not only expressed by perspective. Perspective does not indicate depth by itself; instead the outlining profile implies it. The artist manipulates depth by the solid form and subtle object accompaniment. The advantage of this process is to mark the difference and relation between objects.

Then Riviere examines the mistakes of the cubists in several ways. First, from cubism concept, revealing every face of an object by placing side by side that give up its volume. Thus, it makes the image of the object flat like an unfolded map. Second, the cubists eliminate lighting and perspective because they don't want to unequally value between objects or parts of them. Perspective and lighting suggest the point of interest and the arrangement of the objects and picture, but they reject subordination causes so that their works fall back to the confusion and disorder things. The last, the cubism procedure represent the depth for the only purpose to set apart an object from another. The artist prolongs every direction of object and fills up the space between object by walls. Riviere claims that it useless and does away from their aims by the effects. Yet, it messes up their works and makes their works doubtful.

The cubists found a new principle by taking away of individual object meaning, in order to share the equal value to all together or the unity. They leave out the volume of the object to erase its component. And they represent solid forms instead of the depth by which separate an object to another. However, Riviere thinks that from the cubism rules make their works look

nonsensical and confusing.

This song relates a lot to Mildred and her life. In the first verse, it says, "She's lost in coma where it's beautiful. Intoxicated from the deep sleep, deep sleep. Do you wonder what it's like Living in a permanent imagination, sleeping to escape reality, but you like it like that." Mildred is obsessed with her "parlor walls" and her "family." They are her life, and she seems happy because they are happy. It's all fake, but it's real in her mind and she is depressed that her family will be burned down, instead of being sad that her husband will be put into an asylum. Mildred's life is fiction; she has no purpose or goal in life. She will not have affected anyone's life. "Everyone must leave something behind when he dies, my grandfather said…Something your hand touched some way so your soul has somewhere to go when you die, and when people look at that tree or that flower you planted, you're there"(156). No one will remember Mildred when she dies because she never did anything significant in her life besides watch TV. "She dreams in digital 'Cause it's better than nothing." from the song She lives a life without any purpose, and the only thing that she can do is watch TV, because there are no books.

This song relates to Beatty and the other firemen and their role in the world. They "protect" the world from books with fire, "Jesus blessed me with its future And I protect it with fire." Beatty knows the truth about books, but he still fights them. "The lie is my expense." The reason that they keep books away from society is so that they don't get their own ideas and the government has full control over everyone. "I'm deep inside your children they'll betray you in my name." The children are raised to believe that books are evil, so they stay focused on the parlor walls and live an aimless life. This song relates to how Montag feels about Mildred. It starts, "I'm looking through you Where did you go I thought I knew you What did I know you don't look different But you have changed." Montag felt that he knew and loved Mildred, but in the end, when he realizes that the war may take Mildred's life, he says, "Even if she dies…I don't think I'll feel sad" (155). He sees that Mildred and he are just two people who live together and are called husband and wife, but they really have no relationship. The first verse in this song talks about the emptiness that Montag feels. He realizes that people now days have no feeling or emotion. They are only into their "parlor walls." He sees that Clarisse is lucky because she isn't empty, she has a family who truly loves her and they live life to its fullest. Their house is the only house that has lights. All of the other houses are empty and dark. The second verse talks about drugs and why people take them. Mildred must have taken drugs because she wanted something to ease her pain. She was depressed and took the drugs thinking they will make her feel better. The song also relates to the men who came and gave Mildred new blood. They don't even know her, they are total strangers. It's like routine for them to come and clean people's blood; it's not a big deal. It just shows how empty and emotionless the world has become.

Nathaniel Hawthorne was born in 1804 in Salem, Massachusetts, during the time of the Salem witch trials. Hawthorne had resentment toward "Puritan Pride", so he wrote an allegory about his feelings in 185. In Hawthorne's Young Goodman Brown, Hawthorne uses symbolism throughout the whole story. He was known as the "master of symbolism." One significant symbol in the story was the main character's wife's name, Faith. In the story, Hawthorne could've been writing "Faith" as Young Goodman Browns wife, or Goodman Brown's "faith" as a believer in the higher powers.

From the start, Hawthorne describes Goodman Brown as a good Puritan who is devoted to his wife, "Faith", whose name he uses like a shield for his soul. Goodman Brown leaves on a journey without "Faith", his new wife, in the same way that the Puritans left their "faith" at home and set out on a journey apart from Jesus Christ. Brown's desire to journey without "Faith" leads to her sacrifice. For example, Goodman complains to the devil saying, "Faith kept me back awhile." (1). In the same way, the Puritans sacrifice their "faith" and try living self-righteously. But since no one is righteous, their attempt was in vain.

When Goodman Brown learns that his wife has given into the temptation of the Devil, the Christian belief he is struggling to keep is shaken from him. "My Faith is gone! There is no good on earth, and sin is but a name. Come devil! For to thee is the world given." (50). This passage exemplified how Goodman Brown's wife's name contains two meanings. First, he becomes upset because he lost her. However, if you apply the psychological approach to the quote, you can see that he also refers to the fact that he lost his "faith" in a religious sense. He realizes that because he strayed so much on this night of evil that he can no longer be pure.

At the end of Hawthorne's story, Goodman Brown seems to overcome and resist evil, but his success is also his failure. At the climax of his journey, Goodman Brown directs his wife, "Faith! Faith! Look up to heaven, and resist the wicked one" and "hardly had he spoken when he found himself amid calm night and solitude, listening to a roar of the wind, which died heavily away through the forest." (68). By the end of Goodman Brown's journey, he had lost his "Faith", all hope, and his charity.

Custom writing offers papers on Young Goodman Brown

Unfortunately, even though Goodman Brown's ability to resist the fascination of evil sustained him through his own perceptions of "faith", he lost something he could never regain his belief in the goodness of mankind. When "faith" is shaken, or lost, whether in religion or in ourselves for not being as constant as we think others are being, we change somehow. Like someone losing their virginity, when the mystery of the church is questioned, or made more real to us, like it was to Goodman Brown in the forest that night, we are never the same.

Hawthorne uses symbolism to write a story that is open and ambiguous to interpretation. Hawthorne himself grew up in a time when many Puritan children were leaving the Puritan "faith". There are many times in the story when he is questioning his "faith" by listing the examples of religious infractions by his peers. Some companies can give their suppliers and customers access to their databases. But this access must be limited only for some kind of transactions for security reasons. For example companies don't give access to their human resources data. This kind of sensitive data may fall into the hands of competitors.

Giving limited access to suppliers or customers to the company's database provide some benefits for both sides.

Financial reports are used in decision making. Managers can get related data about the company by relational DBMS query languages. Financial reports can be easily prepared for any time period managers want to examine.

Economic exchanges are the value chain activities that directly affect the quantity of resources. Commitments represent promises to engage in future economic exchanges. The REA data model treats activities as events, which fall into on of two categories, economic exchange or commitments.

This is a typical example for segregation of duties. By dividing responsibility for different employees, you try to control their activities. Effective segregation of duties should make it difficult for an employee to steal cash. But if these two employees work together, they can steal easily. If they are in collusion, it's very hard to detect the fraud.

a) To combat with threats, companies implement effective segregation of duties. Authority and responsibility must be clearly divided. For an adequate segregation of duties, companies ensure that the people, who deal with information system, are qualified and well trained. This means they cost much, but their cost is too little versus their benefit.

b) Data protection procedures contain all kinds of control and security systems. Security is only a part of an organization or company. But company is more important than security. If you try to lower cost of security in order to earn more money you may loose more than you think to earn. The benefits of data protection procedures always exceed their costs.

c) Logical access is the ability to gain access to company data. Data is the key word here. Only authorized people must do any kind of access to important data. This control is very expensive including, biometric identification devices, identifying unique physical characteristics such as voice, retina, body odor…etc. But they are very effective in controlling access to important data.

d) Input validation routines are programs that check the integrity of input data as the data are entered into the system. This control is cheaper than others. And its benefit exceeds its cost.

Devils, witchcraft, feminine and racial subordination and a fear of disorder, these were the main issues people were subject to during Shakespeare's time and this is reflected in his play "Othello". Though a lot has changed after five hundred years that has affected the way people respond to his dominant reading such as the feminist movement and the drive for coloured people's rites in America.

Act 1 begins with Iago and Roderigo plotting in the dark and doing so very sneakily. "I follow him to serve my turn upon him". To an Elizabethan audience the darkness would represent the work of the devil (who supposedly only worked at night) and would stir their supernatural beliefs. Though a modern (Christian) audience after the reforms of the church don't see the devil as having a large stranglehold on the events in the world and would miss this dominant reading and just see them as being sneaky and maybe only to some a little mischievous. If so this takes away from Iago's character and makes him seem, only just a little, less villainous.

This use of night is continued when Iago and Roderigo awake Brabantio to tell him about his Daughter's relationship with Othello. "Look to your house, your daughter, and your bags. Thieves, thieves, thieves!" shows at the time not only how women are men's subordinates but how, through Othello the devil in the night has stolen away this influential man's daughter, "That with some mixtures powerful o'er the blood, or with some dram conjur'd to this effect, he wrought upon her". For a woman to have power was also a sign of deterioration, something that a fifteenth to sixteenth century audience was very afraid of. After the effects of the feminist movement the view of Desdemona being "stolen" has changed and we now see her as a strong willed and courageous person who has challenged the fabric of society by disobeying her Father and Marrying a Moor (African). Therefore she is no longer a person that is to be pitied but a woman that is independent and can stand her ground when she needs to.

Racial discrimination was also ripe in Shakespeare's time and for an inter-racial marriage to occur was something very unordinary, also coloured people were seen as being somewhere in between human and animal, savages, uncontrollable and uncivilized. The first act is plastered with characters commenting on Othello's appearance the "Thick lips", "An old black ram is tupping your white ewe", "lascivious moor" and "to go against all rules of nature". These racist comments from today's perspective only add to Brabantio's hatred, amplify Iago's jealousy and makes plain his mad thoughts when he reveals to the audience his suspicion that he thinks Othello has been sleeping with his wife as it is considered that unfair to denigrate someone because of their race.

Being a modern audience we have been subjected to changes in religion, superstition, social hierarchy and the increased freedom people have, and therefore our perception of the characters, the relationships between them and the situations are different to those Shakespeare's audience would have experienced

The poem Fern Hill written by Dylan Tomas, is about one man reminiscing about his youthful past and glorious childhood. Through countless metaphors, images and symbolism the reader is introduced to this wonderful world full of imagination and reflection.

The boy recalls an easy going, carefree life. Surrounded by; rich meadows, wooden valleys, beautiful playgrounds and gorgeous apple orchids. He reminisces about laying under an apple tree, dark with shade and not having a care in the world. He has memories of pretending to be the prince of the apple town and enjoys being loved by all. Much like how most young children, pretend to be something, or someone else. There is a sense of happiness in this time of the child's life, for he sings happily expressing his emotions.

Through these many joyful memories, as we read on we realize how there is also a sense of sadness as the young man soon realizes how his youth is soon leaving him.

(Quoter lines 1-14) As more childhood memories are presented, such as taking the identity of the herdsman or a huntsman. The boy expresses his feelings through the sounds of his horn and animals such as the foxes and the calves respond. The sounds of the Sabbath rang throughout the valley on this restful Sunday which gives us a sense of calmness.

That day, there was a bright warm welcoming sun which glowed over the fields. The harvest was good this year, because there are many hay barrels, almost as high as the houses. We also can hear the sounds of the wind whistling through the chimneys. As night approached, the child remembers other childhood memories as he falls asleep to the sounds of the night. We are introduced to many night creatures such as; owls, horses and nightjar. They personally add images and sounds to create a solemn surroundings.

The child awakes in the morning and the reader is given the sense of peacefulness and a serene environment. The boy remembers morning sights as; the farms, sounds of the roosters crowing, dew in the meadows, sun fields or horses walking through the stable. White symbolizes; calm, beauty, peacefulness for it was a new day. References are also made to the bible and Adam and Eve in relation to the world and its creations.

Suddenly, the poem brings us back to reality, where the young carefree boy believe he will live forever. Every day he has a new opportunity to attack the obstacle called life, and believe he has more than one chance day after day.

The last few lines of the poem bring us back to reality that life is full of joys and sadness. All good things do come to an end. As the end draws near you reflect on how wonderful your life was. But also keeping in mind what the future may bring. As children your dreams take you places, with age it happens less often. For example The boy doesn't see the farm in the same eyes as he once did. In childhood, days seem to be long and endless. As your youthfulness becomes shorter so do the days.

In conclusion this poem reminds us to appreciate and hold on to our childhood memories. It tells us that " . . . It is in the remembering that we can cherish the joys of what were; it is in the same memories we can be sad for that which is no more, and it is in knowing both, that we realize that we can live life to the fullest." -author unknown.

Teen Pregnancy

You look in the mirror but things just aren't the same since that one special night with your lover. Two months have gone by and you've missed your nd period. Your friends are telling you to take a pregnancy test. You still can't forget around this time two months ago you and your boyfriend had sexual intercourse with using no protection. You come to find out your pregnant. This isn't a big surprise. 1% of all women between the ages of 15-1 that are sexually active become pregnant each year. Now your probable thinking ok 1% isn't that high right. True but you have to look at how many girls there are in the US. If you use numbers its around 1 million girls in those age ranges that become pregnant each year.

Around 78% of all teen pregnancies are unplanned. Accounting for around ¼ of all accidental pregnancies annually. Now about 1% of all births in the US are from teens. Which are almost all unplanned. Teen pregnancy is really not a good thing. Some young girls feel unloved by another. So they go out of their way to try and become pregnant. They feel as if they have a child their have another to love them. Care for them. But that's not the case at all. Young teens don't understand all the work that goes into have a child.

One thing most young teens that want to have a child over look is income. Having a child can get very costly. You must provide enough money to by food, clothing, health care, etc. for both you and your child. That's one of the biggest things teens over look. The teens also lack parenting skills and have trouble dealing with all the stress that's involved with it. Only 7 out of 10 finish high school but are to busy dealing with their child to continuing their education. That's another cause of lower income.

If their partner runs out on them that's where a lot of trouble can occurs. Most women think that all of men run out because they don't need to deal with it. It's not their problem. Many teen males do happen to run out. Try to leave the problem behind. But this doesn't occur with all teen males. Some do stick around and deal with their responsibilities. Most teen females over look this or get the wrong impression form it.

About one out of four mothers that give birth will have a second child with in two years. So just because you have one child doesn't mean your always going to over look if the situation comes up again. But what if you did get pregnant and you weren't planning on it. What can you do if you know you're not ready to have a child? Abortion is the most rout that teens take. Nearly 4 out of 10 pregnancies are terminated by abortion. Since 180's abortion rates have declined reducing the amount of abortions. With abortions at least one parent knows about the situation. What most people don't know is that some teens are so scared of giving birth and telling their parents they end up beating their stomach to kill the baby. They consider it a form of self abortion which is very dangerous to their body organs.

Birth is a dangerous and very scary thing to teens. You should wait you know you finically ready to have a child and wait till your married to have sex. If you just can't control you're running hormones use protection when having sex with your partner. Getting pregnant is nothing to take a chance on one night. One night is all it takes to change your whole life.

A single person's life can be separated into many different parts, sometimes creating different personalities in one being. Some decide to separate there life and hold different attitudes depending on where they are, and who there with. In my research and observations with students at York College of Pennsylvania, I have found most of the students do not make a connection between their social and academic life. They live as one person during the day, yet while hanging out in the party scene they never speak much of life in school.

The conversation of the students that I observed, concentrated on a broad variety of topics. From sports to cars, and from relationships to alcohol, however not much of the conversation focused much around "hey, so what are you learning about in class?" When I asked some students if they ever think about school while they are hanging out, the most popular answer was "DUDE, I don't even want to think about it."

Instead, the topic that comes about most is alcohol. For most of the students at parties, there is only one reason for being there. Drink all the alcohol until there's no more left, then you leave. "What you drinking?" or "Yo, How long is the line for the keg?" is question you hear most while still at the party. After you get passed the whole alcohol topic, the next one to come up is usually that of relationships, who's with who, and who hates who.

That everyday drama between the male and female population that drives some through life, and that brings tears to others, always comes out more at the party scene. A party is a great place for rumors and gossip to spread. So naturally it does. Girls talk about the guys they like, and vise versa. It becomes a game for some by taking about who "hooked up" with whom, and who the next on the list may be. Some actually seem to care about the opposite sex, and go about a relationship the right way, while others seem to jump from one to another, not caring about their feelings at the time.

Purchase your paper on College Life

After the party, when everyone gathers back home, and everyone has had their fair share of alcohol the regular conversation of sports and other hobbies come up. The students all have talks of their favorite sports teams, and have that never ending battle against "The Best" team. The guys start bragging about their cars and how fast they can go. While the girls sit back and talk about who knows what! When you're back at home base, most people walk around and tend to show off how drunk they are, or on the other hand, how drunk they want u to think they are. Students tend to flaunt it more, like it's and accomplishment. The more they drank, and the dumber they acted, reflects how well they did that night. It almost becomes a huge competition.

Please don't get me or any of the other students at York College wrong. Most of us do not base our life on all of this that I have mentioned. It's just the conversation, and the mind-set the majority of us have when we're out and about. It's a time to get away from the school and studying life. Like I mentioned before "DUDE, I don't even want to think about it." Is the way most of us feel about the sometimes stressful college academic life. The weekends, are a chance to hang out, and relax. The last thing anyone would want to think about is what they are learning in class.

Levi's jeans are successful selling their products because they use different techniques. The different techniques being the narrative/storyline, the characters (handsome men and pretty women), lighting, camera angles and using well-known music.

The story begins with a man waiting outside a nightclub, which doesn't accept blue jeans. Man walks up to club gets stopped by a guard checks his jeans realizes they are black jeans instead of the original color blue and lets him into the nightclub. The narrative informs us that it is the Levi's, which help the man, get into the nightclub. If the jeans were blue the man would not have been accepted into the nightclub but because the jeans were black he was accepted into the nightclub.

The advert uses stereotypical characters to make the Levi jeans look good. The actor wearing the Levi's is seen to be gorgeous and always rescuing the 'damsel in distress' to make him look like a hero.

The person wearing the jeans is a handsome attractive man who stands out by how gorgeous he is, however the rest of the character is old or fat and unattractive.

The man wearing the Levi's is seen to be resourceful because of how he always makes the best out of a bad situation. He flaunts conventions by using his black jeans by get into a nightclub that basically does not accept blue jeans. Levi's can help you live the lifestyle you want because in every advert it is the jeans that make it look like anything is possible, which would make you want to buy the jeans.

The music in the advert is "stand by me" by Ben E king.

The music creates a cool mood in the now available in black advert.

The music supported the narrative and the characters by being a famous catchy song, which made the story more likeable and characters more stylish looking.

The props are used to support and promote the presentation of the Levi's. For example the comb-in the nightclub advert. The Levi's man draws attention to the jeans by combing his hair and putting the comb in the back of his pocket, which makes the back pocket look very useful and make the man look stylish.

Explain how an advert of your choice sells its product (pg)

The Levi's are singled out at the end of the narrative by the lighting (the spotlight) and the caption. The presentations of the jeans in the spotlight were a medium shot. The caption is now available in black. The spotlight and the caption enhance the appeal by the way the spotlight was always close up on the jeans. The caption enhanced the jeans by saying that the jeans are not only in blue but also available in

black.

The main message of the advert is to make people jeans .The advert uses lots of techniques like putting a favorite piece of music on, a handsome stylish young man, a pretty young lady, the setting, the props, the storyline (man saves women), lighting, the camera angles, advertising different types of jeans e.g. now in black.

In each advert there is a bad situation but the man and the jeans come and save the day, which makes the man, and the jeans look good.

In Anthem by Ayn Rand the concept of Objectivism is shown well through out the book. It starts right at the beginning when Equality 7-51 talks about how it is a sin to be writing. He talks about how it is a sin to do things that don't involve others. He talks about how he is committing a crime by writing and only he can ever see what he writes. This shows how the people live in a slave state and aren't allowed to think for themselves or they will be punished. It also shows that they aren't allowed to have their own personality because they are given their names. They are told how intelligent they are allowed to be and are given a job which the council of vocations decides for them. Equality 7-51 wanted to be a scientist but accepts that he accepts the fact that they have chosen a street sweeper to be his job. The people in this society accept collectivism because it is all they know, nobody has ever thought for themselves. If the people in this society have to serve a powerful state, then they need everyone to cooperate. If people had their own ideas it would threaten the state because then people wouldn't follow orders without thinking about what they are doing first. They don't want their policies to be criticized by freethinkers and corrupt others who formally agreed with their policies. They want people working for the wealth of the state not for themselves. Equality 7-51 is an individualist but keeps it secret for fear of punishment. He discovers a tunnel with International 4-8818 which he immediately realizes is from the Unmentionable Times an evil period from before the collectivist state. Equality 7-51 tells International 4-8818 that they will not report the tunnel to the Council which is against the rules. Soon after he discovers electricity and he is amazed. Equality 7-51 thinking that it would benefit the state decided to bring it to the council. He believes in the collective good and wants to help the state but the council is outraged and fears that it will disrupt the system by having to change from the candles they use now and so they put him in jail. They were frightened because he was threatening their way of life and they don't like change or individual ideas. What is unique about the jail is that there is no locks or guard because no one had ever thought to just leave which is exactly what Equality 7-51 did. He ran away to the forest where his Golden One seeks after him. It is also against the state to chose who your partner is it is chosen for you and you. During the novel Equality 7-51 wonders what the Unspeakable word is aver since he witnessed the person being killed for saying it. The Unspeakable word is discovered at the house in the forest that they find, and in the reading he does he discovers the word I. He also learns that people had their own names and could think for themselves during the Unmentionable Times. He decides to give himself Prometheus and Golden One was given the name Gaea. The word to be his source of inspiration which he cut in stone was EGO, it was the meaning of glory. This story is a great example of Man vs. Society, man going against the boundaries of objectivism opposed on him to develop his own ego and being able to be and individual instead of being a robot working for the system.

Based solely on reading the background information on each company, I would expect the financial statements to differ in some fundamental ways. The background information for the Boston Beer Company, Inc. indicates that the are a fairly well position craft brewery, in fact according to the general statement they are the largest craft brewing company; selling a volume of beer in 16 that is believed to be more than the next five largest craft brewers combined. Boston Beer seems to be very optimistic about their current market share and predicted growth, they appear to be focused almost exclusively on providing beer and ale products. In addition, Boston Beers seems to have one primary brewery that they manage somewhat hands-on, but overall their business model seems to involve acquiring other companies or contracting out to other companies to produce certain brands of beer. As a result they manage a wide array of micro-breweries world wide. I would expect their financial states to reflect a higher volume of sales and income than that of Lion Brewery, which as indicated from the literature probably does 1/5 the volume of Boston Beer at best. The Lion Brewery seems to focus on a wider array of specialty beverages, including malta, specialty beers, and various soft drinks. The company also produces specialty soft drinks for third parties, who then place their own lable on the products. Lion Brewery seems to be equally focused on all of its products, perhaps even more focused on the soft drink market than on its beers. I would assume that their net income and sales volume will be significantly less than that of Boston Beer. They may also have different and possibly reduced cost factors as a lot of the work they do is production for other companies. This may reduce some of their costs such as inventory, and sales and marketing.

"Go into more detail on as a result of the companies' strategic operating, investing, and financing decisions, how would you expect major financial statement relationships to differ?"

Applying the DuPont model to analyze the return on equity (ROE) for both Boston Beer and Lion Brewery. ROE is a measure of profitability that companres the profit made during a period (NI) to the resources invested in the company (shareholders' equity). The case study asks to use the following form of the the DuPont model

ROE = [NI/EBT] x [EBT/EBIT] x [EBIT/SALES] x [Sales/Total Assets] x [Total Assets/Common Equity]

NI= Net Income

EBT= Earnings before tax

EBIT= Earnings before interest and tax.

ROE Calculation for Boston Beer and Lion Brewery in 15 and 16.

In the hectic confusion of madness and murder that is William Shakespeare's Hamlet, it is easy to underestimate the importance of less dramatic and dynamic characters. While Polonius, the father of Hamlet's love, Ophelia, does not deliver existential speeches or commit horrible atrocities against family, he certainly plays a major role in the plot development and overall flow of the play. Also, despite the fact that Shakespeare uses him mostly as a tool to move the story along, Polonius develops a unique personality throughout the play and adds to the depth of the tragedy. Most importantly, Polonius plays a pivotal role in providing comic relief, uncovering Hamlet's "madness," and establishing a dramatic turning point in the play.

If Hamlet maintained a high level of dramatic tension throughout the entire production, any audience would be exhausted after several hours. In order to prevent this, Shakespeare adds several humorous or witty moments to Hamlet to relieve the tension and allow the audience an emotional catharsis. Polonius acts the first of these scenes when he goes before the king and queen in an attempt to explain Hamlet's bizarre behavior. After claiming that "brevity is the soul of wit" (II ii 6), he proceeds to talk in puns and ramble aimlessly until the Queen orders him to get to the point. Polonius's blatant hypocrisy and foolishness is good for a laugh, and it effectively relaxes the audience so they may absorb future dramatic scenes.

Polonius also serves to show us Hamlet's new "madness." Intending to judge his madness, Polonius approaches Hamlet and strikes up a conversation. Hamlet does not recognize him, however, claiming that he knows Polonius as a fishmonger. Hamlets responses to Polonius are bizarre and sporadic, but most of them are true to an extent. Thus, Polonius states "Though this be madness, yet there is method in't" (II ii -). Polonius is a noble man, and he feels guilt for his role in making Hamlet mad. Unfortunately, he seems to be caught up in something much larger than himself, and he ends up paying the price.

Unfortunately for him, Polonius's most important contribution to this play is his death, which marks the major turning point in the plot. This event drastically changes the audience's view of Hamlet from a noble man out to avenge the death of his father to a murderer of the innocent. His nonchalant attitude about it is demonstrated when Hamlet says "Indeed, this counselor is now most still, most secret and most grave, who was in life a foolish prating knave. Come, sir, to draw toward and end with you" (III iv 6-). This paints him as a cold, disillusioned person, and causes one to lose some sympathy for him. This event also sets the gears in motion that will drive Claudius to plot against Hamlet, Ophelia to commit suicide, and Laertes to seek revenge.

Throughout his life in this play, Polonius is important in providing comic relief, uncovering Hamlet's "madness" and establishing a dramatic turning point in the play. We should be glad, in a way, that Polonius is ignorant of the part he plays in this play. Had he foreseen the consequences of his involvement in this dispute, he may well have taken Ophelia to visit Laertes in France for several months.

With any essay that I write, my main objective is to paint a picture with words. There are three basic guidelines that I follow in order to paint this picture. By writing down my ideas, putting my ideas together on a word processor and then going back to revise is how I compose an essay or any other written work. I feel that these guidelines are essential to a well developed essay.

When Im given a writing assignment, one of the first things that I do is focus on the subject or topic of the essay. If its a subject that I am knowledgeable of, I would add my own input and incorporate it into my writing. And if its not a subject that I am familiar with, I would do some type of research on the subject. One of the most important processes of my written work is the gathering of detailed ideas. When I am forming ideas about my subject for an essay, the first thing that I usually do is concentrate on what I want to write. What do I want to say to my audience? What is the purpose of my writing? I have learned that by knowing the purpose of your writing keeps you focused on it. Once I have found the answers to these questions, I try to stay focused. I gather details for my subject that will help support and develop it. I try to utilize sensory details, specific examples, facts and statistics, or incidents or anecdotes - if they are needed. The next thing that I do is figure out how do I want to say it. Ill start by writing out a few sentences about my subject and then I determine which one represents my idea most effectively. Once I have found a way to express my ideas, I narrow the subject down so that it is specific enough to be covered well in my essay. After narrowing down the subject, I create supporting statements about my ideas. Each idea represents a paragraph and the supporting statements help make the paragraph. Keeping in mind the purpose of my writing and making sure to list my ideas in my thesis statement, I make an attempt to write my essay.

My computers word processing program is my best friend. This is where the major components of my essay become one. The introductory paragraph, the body and the conclusion are all pieced together by the computer. After I get an general idea of how I want to present my paper, I transpose all of my thoughts in to my word processor. This way I can actually look at the form of the paper and edit much easier than looking at it and editing it on paper. Now dont get me wrong, I dont rely on my computer to do my essay. Ive just learned to make the most of modern technology. I make sure that every component is put into a logical order or what ever order is needed.

The last guideline I follow is the actual editing of the finished product. I usually wait until two days before the due date to change anything around. By the time Im done with all of the revisions, I have a completely different paper. The subject has taken on a new meaning, my ideas are clearly expressed and it always seems to be longer.

I guess there is no right or a wrong way to write an essay. As long as its grammatically and punctually correct, and your ideas are formed in a logical manner. No one can tell you how to express your ideas, they belong to you. Its up to you how you want to express them.
