The Westphalia system was designed to supervise and impose social rules of the states and territories, it was governance. Sovereign states meant that governments had control over their regions, it was extensive control over people in their territories. It was a state system otherwise known as nation-states.

Today the Westphalian system does not seem to have the control it once had over territories and states. Non-government originations have much more strength and influence over the people than governments do over the people. Nation-states as well as large corporations are now been forced to listen to the general public or having to face the angry masses. They also have pressure from non-government originations, making it harder for governments to bend the truth or ignore important issues. Governments are very careful not to let the public know that they have been influenced by NGO's. Trying to believe they still have some control and influence left in the world.

Without non-government organisations putting pressure on governments and big corporations we would not see any changes in the world that the general public want. Angry voters would not have a voice, more than likely been told to stop their whingeing, as they had nothing to complain about. The effect of globalisation has been a huge benefit to non-government organisations and their success.
