Thesis Spiritual Calling

God has endowed each and every one of us with certain gifts, some may have a beautiful sing voice; others may have the ability to preach; yet other may be able to do any number of things. Although we all have been giving these gifts some may not realize they have them, or if they do they may not know how God wants them to use the special gifts he has given them. Spiritual Calling is when we realize our gifts and listen to God about how he wants us to use them.

The target audience of this essay if it were ever actually published would be those people whom have not yet realize that God has a plan for every one of us. I feel this essay could bear witness to those among us that have not realized their spiritual gifts and those who have not heard or, on the other hand, listened to their calling from the Lord.

Spiritual Calling

Dr. Allen Admire, Associate Pastor of Hillmon Grove Baptist Church, said on one Renewal Weekend; "This weekend you are going to find your spiritual calling and/or gift." That statement went straight to my heart and started my mind moving. All I could think was that I was thirty years old and had nothing to offer God. That weekend opened my eyes to recognize God's calling for me, and how I could use the gifts He bestowed on me, the gifts that were always there, just that I had over looked.

Since I was a young teenage girl I always wanted a lot of children and a career. Through my Junior and Senior high school years, my dream was to go to law school and become a lawyer. Through the unforeseen circumstance of my father's early retirement, my dream of going to law school was over. So I started working at local businesses to earn income before I ever graduated from high school.

After working four years, I met and married a Ft. Bragg Paratrooper and was back on original track of wanting children. Nine months after I was married, God blessed me and my husband with the first of our four children. I was still drifting through life not knowing what God wanted me to be or do; besides being a wife and mother. Was this all God had planned for me or was there more?

Seven years into our marriage my husband and I decided to separate. Now on my own with three small children who looked to me for guidance and support, I had to find a job. Back in the church, with prayer and support, I felt stronger than I have ever felt. All of the sudden it seemed liked all the doors were opening before me, and my life was laid out in front of me. The church I was attending needed a craft director to teach first through sixth grades for Vacation Bible School that summer. This offered me a great opportunity to witness to and teach, approximately one hundred children, about our Lord and Savior.

In September of that same year, a teacher assistant position opened up at a kindergarten through second grade primary school; I applied for it and was hired. During this same period of time my husband and I again made decisions that would affect our family for a life time. We committed our lives and our new marriage to the Lord. Soon the Lord was calling me into service again, this time as a forth grade Sunday school teacher; I was so honored and proud to teach these children.

Another year passed, and our church was called to start the children's ministry, AWANA. Again I could hear the Lord calling me, to work in AWANA. He was guiding me to the AWANA ministry, guiding me to teach and lead these young girls to the Lord. I felt this was a dream come true, and that my prayers had been answered.

Now at the age of thirty two, the Lord is still not finished with me yet. God has now put my life in order God, husband, family and career. That is where I am today, attending Liberty University, working toward a degree in Elementary Education, finishing out what the Lord has planned for my life; all along teaching and being with children.

God has blessed me with four beautiful children of my own, he has also placed me in the lives of hundreds more; so I can teach and witness to them. So as you see, it has taken me quite a while to recognize my calling and the gifts that the Lord has always known. God always lays your life out for you, but it is entirely up to you to accept His guidance.

I knew I was following God's guidance when I watched my first Liberty University distant learning lesson; Professor Barbra Sherman share with me," God has chosen me to be a teacher, and I would never stoop to be a king." This one statement seemed so profound to me, it summed up the goals I have set for myself and what I believe to be my calling. Another professor, Dr. William G. Gribbin, statement seems to symbolize my life to date; he said "Sometimes while writing a paper, you need to just tear up the first draft and start over." It wasn't until I began writing this paper that I realize that is exactly what God had done in my life.

God has blessed me with so much in my life; though looking back it could have been much different if I had not opened my heat and listened to His calling and start living for Him. The children that I am blessed to teach are an inspiration to me and never cease to amaze me. I hope the lessons I pass on to them inspire them, and lead them to the great and glorious thing God has planned for each one of their lives.
