In this fine book, there are many pieces of evidence which cover the aspect of this question. One of the first of many begins on page 35. Scout has just finished eating her dinner, and Atticus asks her whether she is ready to read. However, like many young children do, Scout explains to him that she is feeling under the weather and didn't think she'd go to school any more… if it was ok with him.

Atticus was taught by his father but never went to school. The gentle father cleverly extracts what is wrong with her. After mentioning a dose of magnesia and school tomorrow, Scout tells him that she is actually feeling ok.

Scouts first day hadn't gone too well, a scuffle with Walter Cunningham and a lecture from her form tutor telling her that Atticus is in the wrong by teaching her outside of the classroom.

"If you can learn a simple trick, Scout, you'll get along a lot better with all kinds of folks. You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view and until you climb into his skin and walk around in it." This was no lecture from Atticus, it was a way of telling Scout that in life there are a lot of misfortunes that can be worse than the first day at school. Atticus is a law abiding citizen, and he wants his children to follow like him.

Atticus Finch is exceptionally good at compromising. An example of this is in page 37 where he again comforts Scout by saying if she goes to school and gets an education then they will carry on reading together against her teachers word.

Atticus is completely anti racist. Although he dislikes the dirt of Maycomb County like the Ewell family, he accepts Negroes as an every day normal human being. During the period which the book is written around, black peoples were thought of as trash, but Atticus humiliated many white people by hiring Calpurnia to work in the house and look after Jem and Scout. Atticus has much respect from black communities by doing this, and after Tom Robinson's court case; even thought he is found guilty; the Negro's who attended the trial stood up as he left the shocked court room respecting him.

Atticus Finch has a great ability to cope with pressure. He does not care about other peoples views including his nephew Francis who calls him a "nigger Lover." Mr Harry Johnson's dog, Tim Johnson, had caught onto rabies. Atticus is a very astute father, after Calpurnia had rung him to tell him, he tells her to keep inside the children and ring local neighbours warning them not to venture out into the street. (p98-100) He does not enjoy grabbing the lime light and first off tells the sheriff Heck Tate, that he better shoot mad Tim Johnson. However, many would falter under pressure, and Heck was one that would. Heck has confidence in Atticus so much that he wants him to take the one shot and put the dog out of its misery. He succeeded in the task, the street came alive and Jem and Scout stood beleaguered that there father had that much personal fortitude. His children did not know that Atticus was the 'deadest' shot in Maycomb County until Miss Maudie informed them of this feat. Atticus had now gained much more respect, and even more respect off his own children.

An example of Atticus deserving our total admiration is on the night of Jems' 12th birthday. Jem had kindly bought Scout a V.J. Elomore baton for 17 Cents, which she'd been eyeing up for a long time. Jem had followed Atticus's advice on how to deal with Miss Dubose. He strode past her veranda side by side with Scout and answered her ridiculous questions of, "Why you not in school!?," in a polite gentlemanly manner. However, Jem finally cracked, he could take no more moaning for reasons un-known. With Scouts new baton, he took to hacking away at Miss Dubose's pride and possession, her Camelia bushes. He was livid, scarlet red and couldn't care a hang for what the consequences would be.

The children, sulking around in the house, heard the scrape of Atticus' sole on his shoes. With a voice like the winter wind, he calmly required Jem.

Asking him whether he was responsible, he admitted to it, and Atticus did not flip. Atticus told Jem that no matter how much his contemporaries get the better of him, this is no way to react to old Miss Dubose's meaningless words. There was to be no comprises from Atticus, Jem was sent to see the victim and agreed to read two her for two hours after school and at each week end each day.

Having become appointed to defend Tom Robinson at his rape trial, Atticus became very wary about Tom's whereabouts and for his safety. Maycomb was not known for gangs, mobs or even the fascist Ku Klux Klan. Mr Tom Robinson was a Negro so many white people would be after his scalp. Atticus had Tom moved into Maycomb Jail house. One evening he took an extension lead with a light bulb on the end of it into town with him one evening. Atticus was a cool and calculated character and in this instance it is pointed out. A bunch of anti-Negro's had gathered outside the Jail house, where Tom Robinson was being held. The gang/bunch had a joint IQ of most likely below 90, so putting them in their place was not a hard job for Atticus Finch, the local attorney. Whilst the men became agitated at Atticus's refusal to let them have Tom, Mr Finch refused to resort to violence in this matter. Atticus, having refused to believe Heck Tate that a group would try to stir up some bother over Tom's occupancy of the jail house, took the precaution to look after his client and as ever, take care of his own and his family's business.

The sound of shots fired can be heard all over the world, not the sound of war, but the sound coming from most televisions around the world. Most shows on T.V. use horrific act of violence. Advertisements using "sexy" models are on in between each one of the shows that we watch. By examining violence and advertising one can see that media today has a bad influence on children.

Violence is a threat of physical force intended to cause physical harm to a person or group of persons. Some television shows today show the heroes as male and the victims as female, showing who does the violence and to whom it is being done to. An example of this would be "Spiderman" and "Superman", all of the heroes are male, saving the women in distress. This type of media offers a way for children to feel powerful. Children watching violent television shows or movies may think that violence, or bullying is "cool". In the movie "Gone in 60 Seconds", bullying is visible and the person is powerful and has a lot of "connections". When children watch this type of behavior, they may strive to be like that and get caught up in acts of violence. Violence in media is hard to avoid and has a harmful impact on children.

Advertisements include paid advertisements or commercials that appear on T.V. programs specifically made for children. Children are effective influencers of family purchases. Children "pester" their parents into buying products that they neither need nor understand. They are getting spoiled and think that they always get what they want. Advertisements often use sex to sell their products. The expression "sex sells" is always heard, children pick up on it and want to look like the "sexy" models they see on T.V. Children are growing up too fast, wearing make up and revealing clothes at a young age. Advertising is a bad influence of children because it promotes sex and makes them spoiled.

Violence and advertising in media are found all over the place, and set a bad influence on children today. You rarely see someone who looks and dresses smart and mature on T.V. We often see the "sexy" approach causing children to hate their bodies and strive to look "sexy". Violence and advertising should not be used in children's shows or movies.

George Berkeley was born in 1685 near Dysert Castle, Ireland. He graduated from Trinity College, Dublin, where he was introduced to philosophies of Descartes and Locke. Berkeley's subjective idealism means all things are constituted by mind and its ideas and things (ideas) depend on perception for their existence. His theory is focused on the citation "to be is to be perceived". Berkeley thinks that in the absence of a perceiver, the tree's sound, color, taste including its sound waves, color frequencies, shape, motion, coconuts, the sand, mountains and the entire island cease to exist. Berkeley's philosophy can be stated as "Ideas exist only in minds, All things are Ideas. Therefore, all things exist only in minds". Everything in this philosophy is based on "idea". The mental representation of something in the external world, say a table, such as brown, rectangular, smooth, flat and four legged. If so, Berkeley's first premise, "Ideas exist only in minds" can't be objected. Berkeley rejects his predecessors' view that ideas represent material objects in the external world, he says those realities are "ideas".

Berkeley conceived his theory of reality as four parts. First part of plan including, second, psychology and ethics, third, physics, and fourth, mathematics. Berkeley's three most important works are Essay Towards a New Theory of Vision, Treatise Concerning the Principles of Human Knowledge, and Three Dialogues between Hylas and Phillonous.

Berkeley defended his thesis with the following considerations. 1) The impossibility of having ideas that is similar to realities, which are essentially different from ideas. Mind and Matter are not separated and there is no difference between our ideas and reality. ) The impossibility of framing any meaningful idea of different from ideas. Matter is a meaningless world, it is devoid of any qualities, and it is only by means of the qualities of something that we can have an idea of it, and we cannot know or talk about something we have no idea of. ) The impossibility of thinking of something that is un experienced. You cannot think of something without thinking of its qualities, and to think of qualities it to perceive or experience them. 4) The impossibility of separating primary qualities from secondary qualities, which makes primary as well as secondary qualities subjective. Secondary qualities are accepted as subjective and requiring a perceiver, and since primary qualities must go the same way as secondary qualities, primary qualities too must be subjective. 5) The impossibility of absolutizing even primary qualities, which thus turn out to be as relative as secondary qualities. We have the natural tendency to think that though colors, sounds, and tastes disappear with the perceiver, qualities like shape, size, and motion continue even when unperceived. But take a shape, for example rectangle. Is there really anything such as a perception of rectangle? Do two people perceive the same shape? Infact there is infinite number of viewpoints or perspectives. All qualities are ideas in the mind of perceiver.

Berkeley introduced God as infinite mind, who perceives all things at all times. This preserves both the reality of the world external to us but internal to God. Berkeley's insistence on subjective idealism has raised many objections. He denied the reality of things, his concern is for the nature of things, specifically, the mental nature of things.

Introduction

Foe this project, I've decided to develop a recipe for a company name Max Mills.

The recipe it self is the Blueberry and Orange Loaf. This type of recipe meets the requirements and it is easily prepared. Most of the ingredients are available through out the year and easily access. Additionally, consumer can make variations to the recipe by themselves to get their desired end product with extra tips and recipes inside the package. Yet, the product is inexpensive, delicious and healthy to eat as a snack or side dishes.

Ingredients

Essay help on recipe development

Flour cups (provided)

Sugar /4 cup (provided)

Yeast 1 sachet (8g) (provided)

Salt 1 teaspoon (provided)

Extra flour for kneading (provided)

1/ cup orange juice

1/4 cup low fat milk

tablespoon orange zest

1 cup blueberry (drained)

eggs

1/4 cup melted butter

1/4 cup warm water

Easy Steps

1. Sifted flour, salt and sugar. Add orange zest preheat oven to 170c with the fan on.

. Break down yeast in small amount of warm (7c) water, wait until it grows

. Make a well in the flour add yeast, egg and all of other liquid. Mix them together by hand

7. Bake in the oven for 50 minutes or until achieve the desired doneness, remove and let it cool down for 10 minutes note you can check by poking a tooth pick into the loaf, if it comes out clean, then its done.

Market Survey

Currently, there are four competitors in the market of bread mix products they are; Defiance, Laucke, Kitchen Collection and Lowan. As our company is relatively new, it is not easy to get into the market and compete with these well know brand.

From the analysis of the market, most of the products currently available are bread mixes with all different types of flours; white, whole meal and such. They also come in various sizes to meet the consumer needs. However, I did see the gaps within the range, the similarity of the products and mostly they were made for bread making machines.

I personally come from oversea country, my experiences of bread there is that bread is soft and moist, unlike most bread here that they are often dry. So I came up with the Idea to introduce the soft and moist textured bread with the goodness of fruits added and the product would be made for hand mixing and machine mixing separately. Unlike any others, we also provided the online extra recipes, which will be undated every month.

Product outline

The muffin orange loaf is soft and moist bread, with bits and pieces of fruits all around the loaf to make the home made appearance. There would be the aroma of orange and some of blueberry. The taste is expected to be sweet and yet fruity. The overall appearance is similar like all other types of loaf, golden brown crust and mixed colour on the inside. The loaf also has the never before seen muffin like interior texture, which has great taste on its own or have them with your favorite spreads.

To enhance the nutritional profile, I've decided to add canned blueberry, orange juice and orange zest into the product. These products will enhance the fibre vitamins and mineral contents of the loaf and consumers can access to these products every time during the year. Additionally, consumer can make changes to the product like change from butter to margarine to reduce the amount of saturated fatty acids. (In this case butter was used, as most people prefer butter to margarine).

Product development

The development of this recipe came from a regular white bread recipe, blueberry loaf and orange loaf recipe from www.allrecipes.com I made some changes to these recipes to make the end product be, as I desired.

Changes Reasons

· The use of yeast· Using white sugar· Butter not margarine· Changes in the amount of liquid The original recipe uses baking powder and were made for bread machinesThe original recipe uses brown sugar, I used white because I didn't want the aroma of brown sugar to be in the breadPersonal preference of consumersTo make the loaf moist, but not to the extreme

The muffin orange loaf was expected to be soft and moist bread, with bits and pieces of fruits all around the loaf to make the home made appearance. There would be the aroma of orange and some of blueberry. The taste is expected to be sweet and yet fruity. The overall appearance is similar like all other types of loaf, golden brown crust and mixed colour on the inside.

Once the loaf was completed for the first time, it's description is as said above, but it also came with unexpectedly nice texture, like muffin and it is also a little chewy.

That's where we get the name Blueberry & Orange Muffin Loaf®.

Packaging

The package was designed to catch the attention of the target market (women aged 0 and above). The package is made from recyclable carton board. The colour is simple green and blue, the loaf in the center surrounded with flowers. The background of the pack would be white, state the white flour (whole meal flour would be brown) and a clear label for hand mix or machine mix.

The design was not made to be fancy but different from other competitors and easy to remember. I tried not to use too much colour to reduce the cost of the packaging production. The main concern is that the consumer recognizes the "bread with flowers" logo of M@YFLOWER.

The dry mixtures in the package would be packed in foil to maintain freshness and prevent moisture absorption of the ingredients

In the box, there will be a recipe booklet with additional variations, which can be made, and extra tips for a successful product

The variations are

1. The canned blueberry could be replaced with canned raspberry to make a delightful raspberry orange muffin loaf. Other berries could also use.

. Apricot orange bread

- Replace 1 cup of blueberry with &frac1; cup dried apricot and &frac1; cup of chopped walnuts

- Add the apricot and walnuts when the recipe said to add the blueberry

Discussion

Estimation of the total production cost of the end product

Firstly, the price of the dry mix itself would be priced around $.00 per 70g packages. The canned blueberry is around $4.80 per 45g can. The orange juice is $.70 per litres. And the price of oranges depends on the seasonal availability which is from $-4 per kilo.

From above, the production cost would be around $4-$4.50 per loaf.

Bang! The sound was loud and quick. It sounded like a car backfiring; but the second one came quickly, and it was apparent that it was not a car backfiring at all. The sounds were gunshots. I looked around to see if everything was O.K. Blood was everywhere, and people were scrambling to get out of the pool. This was the day that Megan, my friend since the sixth grade, was shot. The paramedics arrived and Megan was rushed to the hospital. At the hospital the doctors informed Megan's family that she was now stable, but the next few days would be critical. I can remember praying that Megan would be all right; however, that day at the pool was the last day that I got to see my friend Megan. Megan died at age 18. Tracing back through all of the events that have occurred in my lifetime, this event was most important in my decision to become a doctor.

While Megan was in the hospital, I had the opportunity to observe the doctors that worked diligently to save her life. During this experience, I noticed the unique relationship that doctors have with their patients, patients' family, and patients' friends. Many patients encounter doctors when they are sick. The unfamiliarity and discomfort of the sickness cause these patients to be nervous or scared. They depend on doctors primarily to treat the illness; but, secondarily, patients depend on doctors to offer them council and hope. It is for this reason that I love the idea of being a doctor, and I have decided to become a healthcare professional.

Doctors are expected to play many roles in helping patients, they should be compassionate, knowledgeable, and able to communicate both clearly and effectively, all of which I possess and exhibit willingly. I believe compassion to be innate; however, I believe the level of compassion that one exhibits is shaped and developed through life experiences. For this reason, I have participated in various organizations and activities that would allow me the opportunity to develop an increased level of compassion. While volunteering as a peer mentor and tutor, I served as a role model for entering freshman and provided them with advise on problems they encountered.

In addition to volunteering and mentoring on campus, I also had the opportunity to participate in two summer internships sponsored by the Greenville Area Health and Education Center (AHEC). During my internships, I assisted the nurses in the operating room of Greenville Memorial Hospital with the preparation of patients for surgery. My duties included completing patient charts, taking vital signs, and transporting patients to surgery. I also aided in the discharge of patients post-operation, as well. The internship also allowed me the opportunity to observe a complete operation, and shadow two doctors, a trauma surgeon and a general practitioner. Cheap college papers on My reasons for wanting to attend Ross University, School of Medicine

During my undergraduate education at the College of Charleston, I also had the opportunity to participate in research. I performed research in the Department of Physiology and Neuroscience at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) in January 001. As a lab assistant for Dr. Antoineta Lavin, I am responsible for the histology, lab maintenance, and to perform several techniques such as immunocytochemistry and microinjections. In addition, the microinjections require performing surgery on the brain of laboratory rats.

I also participated in the South Carolina Alliance for Minority Participation (SCAMP) summer research program in the summer of 001. At the conclusion of the program, each participant was required to give a poster presentation or an oral presentation; however, I felt it was essential to do both. My abstract entitled, "The dopaminergic projections from the ventral tegmental area (VTA) to the medial dorsal thalamic nucleus" was later selected to participate in the Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students (ABRCMS) held in November 001. At the conference, I gave a poster presentation and discussed ideas with respected scientist from all over the nation.

My research experiences have allowed me the opportunity to communicate with colleagues, students, and faculty. Also, the experiences have allowed me to build effective communication skills in the process. Because my research was selected to participate in a national conference, I feel I have displayed the ability to do good research and communicate my findings both clearly and effectively.

I am the second child in a family of five. I am the first individual to attend a University and obtain a Bachelors degree. My family has been very supportive in my decision to become a doctor. I have discussed my desire to attend Ross University with my family; and, we believe that attending the university will be an enriching opportunity. The program will allow me to build a strong medical background. This will provide me with the knowledge that is needed to be successful in the medical field. In addition, the schools location is very appealing to me. Having earned my bachelor's degree in Charleston, a historic southern city, I am accustomed to a warm friendly atmosphere that promotes learning as well as leisure activities. This, I feel, is the same environment I can anticipate in Dominica.

My goal is to continue to set high levels of achievement while at Ross University. The curriculum offers excellent academic opportunities that really caught my attention. The incorporation of problem-based learning into the curriculum and the interaction between professors and classmates outside of the classroom are both very appealing. The diversity of the campus will allow me the opportunity to encounter new customs.

My future goals are to gain further research experience, in addition to a medical training. I would like to work to find therapeutic solutions for autoimmune diseases and examine the sequestered antigen theory in autoimmunity development. This topic was introduced to me during an Immunology course at the College of Charleston, and has fascinated me since its introduction. As student at Ross University, I am certain I will receive the direction and insight that is needed to be successful in the medical field
