Only a few days after the terrorist attacks on September 11, two people in the State of Florida died from anthrax infection. It immediately led us to think that the ones responsible for these deaths were the same terrorists responsible for the previous tragedy. Blaming the Taliban would probably be the easiest thing to do because of all the terror we have seen in their actions. However, to our surprise it appears like bin Laden has no involvement in this process. The purpose of my paper is to dig deeper into the study by investigating the sources of this problem that has frightened Americans to the point of forcing some of them to leave the country. Where is it all coming from?

Before starting talking about the problem itself, it is of great importance to know what we are dealing with, in other words, what Anthrax is. This is a disease most commonly found in farm animals. It is a bacterial disease that usually affects the skin causing many symptoms including the following itching at first developing into more serious consequences such as papular and vesicular lesions. Also, hands, forearms and the head are the most common sites of infection which has led some doctors to confusion with Orf Virus Disease which makes the disease somehow confusing to identify in some particular cases (Boyce, 001).

It is difficult to make a judgment in this situation and even more taking a side of it. Even our own leaders seem to be very confused when it comes to decide who they are to blame. However, in my opinion the bioterrorist problem we are experiencing is merely internal. If bin Laden truly wanted to take revenge and terrorize us, he would have killed many more people. Also, as was proved earlier, the technology necessary to make the aerosol substance of anthrax is very sophisticated and expensive. That leads us to think that only powerful and technologically advanced countries such as the US can develop aerosol anthrax as opposed to a country like Afghanistan that is not economically potent. At this moment, bin Laden is surely worried about more important things than killing three post-office workers here in the US. It might just be a crazy American trying to scare the whole country which by the way is doing a great job.

Hello from the beach in Sarasota, Florida

For those we have not spoken to "HELLO" and for those we have "HELLO AGAIN". We arrived safe and sound last Thursday and the trip was a relatively pleasant one. Thankfully we left on the Thursday as we found out on the Friday many of the airport were closes and flights cancelled. Time is precious when you only have three months on your hands.

CYCLING IN THE SUN IS FUN

One of our first tasks was to purchase a set of bikes and figure out a cycle route to follow every day. We bought two bikes and then had to figure out how to get them home from the store. Two bikes, one car, one boot. Tricky! After a few exchange of words we, I mean, I managed to get them in the car. Of course Malcolm knew they would fit all along. Once home, straight out on our route. Who says keeping fit was not fun, try doing it along the beach in sun and you might just change your mind.

Life would be no fun if there were no mishaps along the way and for future reference I recommend that you tighten all the nuts and bolts on your new bike prior to cycling it. 5 miles into our bike ride and my handle bars start to move and Malcolm's breaks don't work. Not to worry luckily we did not go on one of the busiest roads in Sarasota on our first bike ride!! Honest we did not!

The sun glistened down on a frosty, bitter December morning. The air was so clear and crisp; you could see for miles in every direction. Vibrantly colored hats and mittens littered the horizon like confetti on New Years Eve. Most of the snow on the hills was that glossy, jet-blown, artificial snow, because of the lack of natural snow so far this season. Not exactly the best kind of snow for learning how to ski.

I boldly made my way to the chairlift looming ahead. I hopped on the frosty cold bench, and after a short, tense ride I was at the peak of an intermediate slope. I slowly gazed around, absorbing my surroundings. The crunch of skis gliding over ice echoed in my ears. I could hear the cheerful laughter of children shouting to their friends as they effortlessly breezed down the hill. The frigid air smelled crisp, fresh, and clean. Crawling into the crowded ski lodge, I pulled my steamy, muggy goggles off my face. I could barely make out my surroundings through the coating of ice that had formed on my eyelids. The aroma of greasy pizza and French fries filled my nose. I grabbed a cup of hot chocolate and allowed the warm liquid to slide down my throat. I managed to find a chair and began thawing my numb toes and emptying the damp snow out of my boots. Gradually the tingling feeling in my limbs began to subside and I think I actually was getting my normal five senses back. I turned and gazed out the window. Light fluffy snowflakes were diminishing from the sky and the sun shimmered through the glass. The rejuvenated skiers were rising from their brief hibernation and pulling on their wooly caps and gloves heading back to their winter fun on the frozen slopes. For a moment I considered joining them, but I was too far lost in my thoughts of golden sun-drenched beaches and the gentle lapping waves of the ocean on my bare toes. ZZZZZZ…
