Terrorism

Terrorism has not been a stranger to the America History. During the early days of the republic, hundreds of Americans were taken hostage of the high seas by the Barbary Pirates of North Africa. Their sufferings evoked great sympathy in the country and led to the first Arms-For-Hostages Deal and the first counter military operation in the US history. But although anti-US terrorism has been a frequent event overseas, relatively few spectacular incidents have occurred on the American soil. The bombing of the World Trade Center in 1 killed 6 people and left thousands injured when a car bomb exploded in an underground parking garage of one of the twin towers. Yet as shocking as that incident was, it had all but faded from public attention by spring 15. The American people believed that the worst was behind them.

In the world of terrorism it takes only one well-placed bomb to create new fears and reactions. That is what happened on the morning of April 1th 15 when a car bomb exploded in front of the federal building in Oklahoma City, killing 16 people. It worst terrorist attack ever on US soil, and it struck a special nerve through out America. As millions of people watched on television the heart wrenching scene of dead children being pulled from the wreckage. The Oklahoma City tragedy brought public and media attention to the rise of the right ring militias. The US was still recovering from the shock of the Oklahoma City bombing when a new terrorist crisis erupted in June. This time a familiar individual was behind the trouble the collusive "Unabomber." Over a 17 year period he committed 16 attacks in which innocent people were killed and others injured.

All terrorist attacked are committed due to a special reason. The Unabomber's goal was to destroy what he called the "Industrial-Technological System" of modern society. A common thread running through many acts of terrorism is the creation of fear in the general population. Terrorism is the psychological form of warfare, which terrorists often staging their violence to reach wider audience than their immediate target. By hijacking a plane with a few hundred passengers on bored, terrorists deliver a message to all people in a foreign country. By blowing up a building and killing scores of people, terrorists demonstrate that they can arbitrarily take the lives of innocent people.

On 11th September 001, the most recent atrocity committed on the innocent people in New York took attention of all resulting the loss of 7000 lives by the destruction of a section of the Pentagon and the World Trade Center in Manhattan. American government investigated the matter and declared Osama Bin Ladin as the prime suspect and started "War against Terrorism" as they say it, in Afghanistan. Terrorism on American soil has had a much deeper psychological impact on the country than anti-US terrorism overseas.

The barbarians who wrecked havoc on the New York City and Washington D.C. bore Islamic names irrespective of whether they were practicing Muslims or not. Critics conveniently can argue that a religion is known by the acts and practice of its adherence. To counter such propaganda, Muslims have to prove through their deeds and actions that they do not support terrorism in any of its forms.

"As regards to terrorism every country will have to look within. None has a clean state. All nations must calm down on their extremists. It is a war of values institutions and human behavior and not against," wrote Kulpid Nayyar recently. It has become obvious that terrorism is a complex matter. Terrorism is disease that should be stopped because if initiatives are not taken to halt the actions of terrorists, they will go on taking lives of innocent people. Governments have to make sacrifices and give the pursuit to end terrorism first priority.

Invalids and Jews

Inferior?

As I finished reading Maus and finished viewing Gattaca, I saw a similarity between them and it was the Jews from Maus and the Invalids from Gattaca. Both were a major part in each story. Though they are similar, both had their differences among each other. Though Maus, their of time was in the precedent and Gattaca in the future it showed that both Maus and Gattaca wanted human beings above standard level. For Gattaca it was the method you were born because it showed how you were born because it showed how you going to be as for well being, intellect, and expectation in the future. As for Maus it was an issue of race and religion.

As the World War II occurred Hitler declared Jews as inferior to Germans and that they were not human beings. As a result Jews were targeted and most were killed. As they were transported to diverse locations and then sent to concentration camps, the US did very little to stop this. Jews were inferior in the eyes of Hitler and Germany. Why? They were not German.

Sometime in the near future is how Gattaca began. It showed that the country was segregated involving valids and invalids. The difference between valids and invalids were that valids had a greater expectancy than invalids. Valid people grew taller, were smarter, had more endurance and had increased life expectancy. Invalids had less then that. They had lower class jobs and were frowned upon.

Differences and similarities occurred between the invalid people and Jewish people in general and in their circumstances. They were each thought to be second-rate. They both had it worse than others. They also were treated almost like criminals. Though they were similar they had their differences. Invalids were shown to have decreased functions as to valids but the Jews were just targeted lacking real evidence. Furthermore the Invalids were segregated but the Jews were not only segregated but also millions died due to killings and terrible environment in concentration camps.

In conclusion, Jews and Invalids were assumed to be inferior. Some shown they were, other weren't. If someone came up to you and called you inferior to them, how would you feel? You are what you are, nothing less. You can only get better.

a) With reference to source 1 and including your own knowledge, describe housing in Pompeii and Herculaneum.

Housing in Pompeii, by Roman standards, was considered middle to upper class housing, as Pompeii was a city made rich by its wine exports. As Pompeii (pre-eruption geography) and Herculaneum were coastline cities, they have been affirmed as a summer and holiday refuge for the inhabitants of the city. Roman and Pomeiian houses are known to have accomodated in their interiors many rooms. These rooms had such uses as; shops, kitchens, a hallway (atrium), bedrooms, a study, a sitting room, a dining room (triclinium), a pantry and storeroom and a garden. As many of the inhabitants of Pompeii and Herculaneum were wealthy Roman citizens, many of the houses include servants quarters.

Roman cities were laid out similiarly to our own, in blocks (insulas). However, these insulas were shaped according to the position of natural landscapes, and the encompassing city walls, which meant that the insulas were often irregular shapes. The architects of Roman times had to take this into account when designing the houses for the citizens of Rome, and many of the houses found at Pompeii and Herculaneum are of their own original shape or design. This can been seen in the design of the 'House of the surgeon', which is an irregular six sided home, with central rooms in regular squares and rectangles, and the rooms to the rear and right side distorted into different shapes.

However, the basic home consisted of a central courtyard (or hall, called an atrium) surrounded by rooms, with a small garden at the back of the house. The passageway (or fauces) that enabled entry, had a bedroom on either side, at the front of the house. These rooms have commonly been found to have been converted into shops, which would open right at street level. Along the left and right of the atrium, were bedrooms. In the centre of the atrium was a shallow basin, which through a hole in the roof, directly opposite the basin, rainwater fell and was collected in a well, below the basin. The atrium commonly led right through the centre of the house, and met up with the garden that Romans generally kept and tended in a back corner of the house. On either side of the atrium were bedrooms. The rear of the atrium led to two wings, which contained the dining room (triclinium) and study. At the end of the atrium was the sitting room, which opened up onto the garden. On one end of the garden, were the storeroom and (if required) servants quarters.

Essay service for your Housing at Pompeii and Herculaneum paper

Housing had little or no windows at street level. Doors and windows have been found with metal grills barred across them. This is indicative of one of the methods that citizens took to protect their own houses. The difference between the wealthy and the poor is very prominent at sites such as Pompeii and Herculaneum. The poor generally lived in very small rooms, accomodated in the front of houses, often leading up two or three stories high. Other, poorly constructed and dangerously precarious buildings have been found in which it is believed the poorer in Roman society lived.

Roman houses had no toilets or bathroom. Toilets were located in public baths, the baths contained many of the hygeinic funcitons commonly found in a house today. Apart from this, and the fact storefronts were commonly found inside houses, housing in Pompeii and Herculaneum was very similiar to that of our own homes today, and displays remarkable skill and level of civilisation for the people of that time. Coupling that with the size and wealth of Roman cities, it can be deduced that Romans lived in highly organised societies.

This scene is set in Macbeths castle,it opens with Lady Macbeth reading a letter from her husband.

Macbeth obviously is thoughtful towards his wife sharing his deepest thoughts and emotions with her.Macbeth also addresses her in the letter as dearest partner in greatnesswhich shows his respect and appreciaton for her. After reading the letter Lady Macbeth shares her fears in a soliloquy this is when we hear her deepest thoughts and emotions, saying that her husband may be too full of the milk of human kindness to plan a murder of the king.Lady Macbeth is ecstatic by the prospect of becoming the queen but fears her husband may be too kind to ensure he wears the crown. When she hears Duncan will be staying she immediately decides that she wil help her husband by encouraging him to murder Duncan.Lady Macbeths response to the news is that she welcomesthe fatal entrance of Duncan under my battlements. She sees this as the perfect opportunity to have her husband murder the king.

We find out that Lady Macbeth is even more driven by greed and power than her husband and who is the force behind the plan to murder Duncan.Lady Macbeth begs the spirits to aid in the plan and wants her body to change to become evil so nothing can stop her to do what she wants to do.

Shakespeare uses alliteration and similes to involve the reader more like murdering ministers. Then Lady Macbeth warns Macbeth that he cannot let his plans for murder show in this face.Instead he must look like the innocent flower but be the serpent underneath. This simile shows that Lady Macbeth worries that her husband might reconsider and decide not to murder the king.Lady Macbeth says That my keen knife see not the wound it makes, nor heaven peep through the blanket of the dark. This indicates that she wants wants to be in control of the plan by saying my.She recognises that she is wrong and doesnt want heaven to stop it.Lady Macbeth tells her husband to put this nights great business into my despatch.

The scene closes with Lady Macbeth telling Macbeth to stay clam and leave the rest to me this shows that she is the main force behind the murder.

From this scene we learn Lady Macbeth will be the driving force behind her husband and that she has softened the brave warrior Macbeth.

The Box Clever production is a modern version of Shakespeares Macbeth. The Box Clever Production used a round stage which I think involves the audience more and makes it more realistic. There were only three actors in the play who played a number of characters.Sometimes it was confusing to understand which character they were playing at certain stages of the play. There is only one piece of set in the play it was a pyramid with a web of ropes. In the play this represents many things at different stages. At one stage it represents a cauldron for the witches,a web were Macbeth is cauht in and Dunsinane castle.

In Act 1 Scene 5 in Shakespeares play we first see Lady Macbeth reading a letter from Macbeth. In the Box Clever Production Lady Macbeth is introduced to the audience this is to make you remember that its only a play.Lady Macbeth is being introduced while music is playing the lyrics are behind every great man ties a great women. In the letter scene it misses bits out and mixes bits up this is confusing when watching. In Shakespeare play Lady Macbeth wears a dress. In Box Clever she wears a small Scotland rugby top this shows she is Scottish and that Macbeth is King of Scotland. The top is tight and short on her this shows that she uses her body to seduce Macbeth into her treacherous plans.Lady Macbeth wears dark blue velvet Nike tracksuit bottoms.Nike is a equaliavent to royal clothes when the play was set.The labels are expensive and important the modern equivalent of robes and velvet represents royalty.Lady Macbeth wears red nail polish which represents blood on her hands at the end of the play when King Duncan is murdered. The most unusual costume in the play was a white sweat band which Lady Macbeth wore around her head. The sweat band represents a crown this shows she is so determined to become queen. When the actor who played Lady Macbeth starts the play the witches she removed the sweat band from her head and placed it around her neck.My first impressions of Lady Macbeth in Act 1 Scene were that she is very modern, she wore modern clothes while in most plays Lady Macbeth would wore a dress. We can relate more too Lady Macbeth in Box Clever because she is modern.

In the Box Clever play the actors use Shakespeare language like most Shakespeare interpretions.Even thought Lady Macbeth in Box Clever uses Shakespeare language they still leave lines out and add in extra bits. The Box Clever production do this to make it more interesting and to involve the audience more.During the scene Lady Macbeth went over to member of the audience sit on there knee and started talking to them. The actor does this to add a bit of humour and to remind us that its just a play. When the actor who plays Lady Macbeth speaks her tone of voice represents her character. She shouts her lines slowly in a high pitched voice this shows she is domiant.Lady Macbeth in Box Clever moves slowly, strutting while parading around the audience showing she is a strong person. She posed in the pyramid kissing Macbeth trapping him like she wants him to obey her.Lady Macbeth seduces Macbeth persuading him to kill King Duncan in a sexual way.In Shakespeares play it doesnt tell us about Lady Macbeths movement. This lets us imagine the way and for the director to chose their own style.

My overall impression of Lady Macbeth is that she uses her apperance to seduce Macbeth into murdering King Duncan. She is the driving force behind the killing of King Duncan. We also learn she is stronger, more ruthless and more ambitious than her husband.I think the Box Clever production is an excellent interpreted of Shakespeares Act 1 Scene 5.It is a modern version of Shakespeares play but still manages to use Shakespeares language. The modern day clothing represent the royal clothes of the 11th century.

The introduction of Lady Macbeth in Box Clever is different but it lets us remember that its just a play.Overall I really enjoyed the Box Clever production and it tells us more about Lady Macbeth than we knew from reading Shakespeares play.

Online essay help on Wind Energy

Wind Energy has become the fastest growing energy source in the present time. It is created by the use of wind, an unlimited resource on the Earth. Wind is created by circulation patterns in Earth's atmosphere caused by heat from the sun. It is harnessed by specially designed wind turbines to create electricity, or it aids in propelling objects such as boats through their use of sails.

How electricity is created by a wind turbine is relatively simple. As atmospheric winds flow past the rotor of a wind turbine, the rotor spins and drives the shaft of an electric generator. The generator then produces electricity for people to utilize. As long as wind is present, electricity may always be generated for the benefit of mankind.

Many differences are present between obtaining wind energy and obtaining hydroelectric energy. Wind energy is available throughout the entire world, while hydropower is limited to certain areas. Also, in obtaining wind energy, a larger rotor is necessary in order to produce the same amount of electricity that a hydro turbine rotor accomplishes. This is due to the fact that the air that drives the rotor is much less dense than the water that drives a hydro turbine rotor.

In order to create a wind turbine, these parts are necessary

1. Rotor-used to convert the wind's energy into conventional shaft energy

. A Nacelle containing a drive train, most likely containing a gearbox

. Tower-supports rotor and drive train

4. Electronic equipment such as controls, electrical cables, ground support equipment, and interconnection equipment.

At the moment, wind energy is a new and upcoming energy source which has the potential of providing at least twenty percent of a system's electricity. It currently provides greater than twenty percent of Energia Hydroelectria de Navarra's electricity and has the potential to create even more. As of now, utility scale wind turbines throughout the world have the capacity to produce 17,000 megawatts of generating capacity. By the year 017, wind could provide ten percent of the world's electricity supply, assisting over 500 million households and reducing our need for the consumption of fossil fuels.

The best part about the harvesting of wind energy seems to be that it basically causes no harm to the environment. By reducing the burning of coal and other fossil fuels, the overall health and happiness of the world can be instilled. Maladies such as asthma, other respiratory illnesses, nuclear waste, water pollution, acid rain, and the greenhouse effect could be eliminated with the full implementation of wind energy.

It sounds just too good to be true now, doesn't it? Well, one issue is yet to be resolved in the case of transporting the produced electricity. Utility Transmission lines, which carry the created electricity from windy sparsely populated areas to bigger cities are apparently too costly and difficult to install at the moment. Hopefully, ways to overcome this problem will be developed to institute a safe and easy way to produce electricity in the future.
