"The medium, or process, of our time -- electric technology -- is reshaping and restructuring patterns of social interdependence and every aspect of our personal life. It is forcing us to reconsider and reevaluate practically every thought, every action, and every institution formerly taken for granted. Everything is changing -- us, our family, our education, our neighborhood, our job, our government, our relation to 'the others' and they are changing dramatically."(Marshall McLuhan, quoted in Road Warriors by Daniel Burnstein and David Kline, New York Dutton, 15)

"Without the belief in the possibility of progress, whatever reason's ability to understand the nature of society, social theory would not be able to fulfill any positive role in improving upon man's destiny" (Durkheim Badham). Badham was emphasizing on what the society progress and change to improve man's fate. Social change, thus, is the core foundation of sociology that inevitable to occur. Functionalism views society as living organism, and argues that to understand any particular aspect of that society, it is essential to see that aspect in its full social context such as family, school, trade union and workplace. The concept of social character is a key concept for understanding of the social process. "Character in the dynamic sense of analytic psychology is the specific form in which human energy is shaped by the dynamic adaptation of human needs to the particular mode of existence of a given society" (Erich Fromm, Character and the Social Process; 14).Religion plays a major role in constructing a society and in Bangladesh it is the baggiest beliefs that reflacts and colonize bangladeshi society. In Bangladesh 8 percent of the people are Bangalees. The major religion is Muslim with 80 percent of total population. The second major religion is Hinduism which constitutes 16 percent. Other religions include Buddhism and Christianity. Minorities include Biharis and tribes. Among the tribes Chakma is the biggest. Bangladesh is one of the largest Muslim countries in the world.

Bangladesh, public services in rural areas have expanded tremendously, bringing contraception to women and education to children. But within the private spheres of hearth and home, traditional values and customs remain largely unchanged, with girls and young women continuing to lead circumscribed lives. Family structure has received little scholarly attention in Bangladesh, (Sajeda Amin, Family structure and change in rural Bangladesh, 16). He conducted in-depth research in two Bangladeshi villages to find out how the large-scale social changes brought about by development affected family dynamics and living arrangements. Amin examined dowry, education, living arrangements, and landlessness, beginning in 11 when she spent two years in the region. Analyzing the effect of womens education on their lives, Amin found that its most important impact was to delay marriage and childbearing. Women who received more than a primary-school education tended to be between one and two years older at marriage. "Schooling had little impact, however, on womens adoption of contraception or desire for more or less children" (Sajeda Amin, Family structure and change in rural Bangladesh, 16).

In our LFE, we focused on the historical changes that took place in that particular area in Nay Para. Most of the information gathered through PRA in our time line analysis was from many important people in Nay Para and among them we had our pleasure to interview one of the oldest men (Picture 1 Mr. Joydev Sarker) in Nay Para. Even though the village had little history, we were bound to find out the history that existed for 5 years. At that time, Hindus occupied the area which was full of jungle and the land was 8 foot high above the normal ground that exists today. During three decades people started to migrate and cultivated the land from all around Bangladesh. The village was small which included only 14 houses occupying only 10 acre of land.
