These days in society, there is a stigma of being last. If you are on

a sports team or running for election, last will not cut it. I often

wonder if its a horrible thing to be last.

I have watched a few marathons in my time and there is always someone

but I think they have no illusions of winning either. Here in the

states, if you finish with five percent of the vote, you can then have

matching funds from the federal government. In the last presidential

election, Ralph Nader did very well and put his third party on the map.

Hopefully, someday, that last place finish will turn into a first

place finish. The groundwork has been laid by finishing last.

Thinking about those sports teams, last does have a good thing going for

it. If you have the worst record then you are able to pick the top

college prospect for your team. Many a bad team has taken advantage of

this and have become a good team.

There are a world of things out there, where last isnt so bad. As I

look at the examples I have given, maybe I have had things all wrong.
