The book Macbeth is about ambition, deception and fate. It was Macbeth’s ambition to become King to do this he had to deceive everyone, the only way he could deceive everyone was through a bit of chance, his own actions and the actions or advice of others. There are many examples of how chance, his own actions and the actions or advice played a role in securing Macbeth’s rise and fall from King.

Macbeth’s fate was determined by a lot of things but the thing that influenced it the most was chance and the first example of this is in act one scene three where Macbeth meets the witches for the first time, and they prophecies his future of becoming King. If they hadn’t of seen the witches then Macbeth would never of thought of being King. The second example of this is when King Duncan stays at Macbeth’s castle, which is the perfect opportunity to put his plan into action. Which was to kill Duncan by stabbing him in his sleep. The third example of this was when Duncan’s son Malcolm left the castle and everyone thought it was him who killed Duncan not Macbeth. “This murderous shaft that’s shot hath not yet lighted, and our safest way is to avoid the aim. Therefore to horse.”(,,18-40)

Macbeth’s fate was also determined by his own actions because he was

the one who allowed himself to be persuaded into killing Duncan after he already said “we will take no further action in this business”(1,7,1). Another example of this was when he killed Banquo because he thought that he new too much and he might reveal Macbeth’s secrets to everyone. The last example of this is when Macbeth orders murderers to kill Macduff’s family because he is Macbeth’s biggest threat and he knows Macduff is devoted to his family. “The castle of Macduff I will surprise seize upon Fife; give to the’edge o’the’sword His wife, his babes, and all unfortunate souls that trace him in his line.”(4,,14-151)

The last thing Macbeth’s fate was determined by was the actions or advice of others because without that Macbeth wouldn’t of killed anyone because they were the ones who persuaded him into doing things that he didn’t want to do. Lady Macbeth was the one who persuaded Macbeth into killing Duncan she said that he deserves to be King. “Thou wouldst be great; art not without ambition”( ). Another example of this is when Macbeth meets the witches for the second time and they prophecies to him who he should fear and when he should fear them “Macbeth shall never vanquish’d be until Great Birnam Wood to high Dunsinane Hill shall come against him”(4,1,1-). Which made him think of killing Macduff’s family because he was the biggest threat to his throne.

In conclusion I think everything contributed to Macbeth’s fate of becoming king because without one of the three, he wouldn’t of became king. Chance made the whole thing happen if he hadn’t of seen the witches that he might not of thought about becoming king. Without his own actions it wouldn’t of happened either because if he had of done what he wanted to do in the first place and take no further action in this matter instead of letting himself get persuaded into killing Duncan then he wouldn’t of been king either and final if it wasn’t for the actions or advice of others then he wouldn’t of done anything either because it was everyone else that contributed to his fate if they hadn’t of persuaded him into killing Duncan then he wouldn’t of became king.
